Finnish parliament to debate euro zone exit in following weeks

Finland's parliament will debate in the coming weeks whether the country should quit the euro, an official said on Thursday, following a petition on the issue signed by more than the required 50,000 citizens. The debate is very unlikely to lead to Finland's exit from the common currency but the decision to hold such a debate demonstrates a high level of dissatisfaction among Finns with their country's economic performance.

In light of the very dangerous developments for the peoples that are unfolding in the region of the Eastern Mediterranean, the common stance of the Communist Parties against the imperialist interventions and wars acquires even greater importance. A delegation of the KKE recently visited Turkey and held discussions with the CP, Turkey about the developments in the region, the situation in Greece and Turkey, the tasks and experiences of the communists in the two countries. The two CPs decided to issue a Joint Statement on the developments in the Aegean Sea and the involvement of NATO there, which uses the issue of immigration as its pretext.

Poll: 85 percent of voters think the U.S. is on wrong track

The new poll of about 800 likely voters found that only nine of 100 Republicans and 15 of 100 independents believe the country is going in the right direction. A little over 50 percent of self-identified Democrats (51.9 percent) believe the country has taken a turn for the worst while 83.9 percent of independents and 87.4 percent of Republicans hold the same belief.

Denmark - surprising elections

Yesterday’s parliamentary elections in Denmark were surprising in many ways.
The right-populist Danish People’s Party became the big winners of the elections, which also led to a huge defeat of the biggest party in the last elections in 2011, the Liberal party “Venstre”.The Social Democrats on the other hand became the biggest party in the elections, whereas the party’s former coalition partners in government, the Social Liberals and SF/the Socialist People’s Party, suffered from decisive defeats.
